As reported today by <a href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/amazon-nft-marketplace-web3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Blockworks<\/em><\/a>, the e-commerce giant is planning to launch a \u201cdigital assets enterprise\u201d via an NFT initiative this spring. According to one anonymous source the publication spoke with, the company\u2019s focus will center on blockchain-based gaming that rewards players with NFTs. <\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the platform will allegedly be run out of Amazon itself vs. Amazon Web Services (AWS), but it still isn\u2019t clear who is leading the charge in terms of personnel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This news comes on the heels of AWS\u2019 recent partnership with Ava Labs, the company behind the Avalanche blockchain. <\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, this move isn\u2019t a huge surprise. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SquawkCNBC\/status\/1514597768739835910\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a Squawkbox interview on CNBC<\/a>, Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, previously stated that he believed that the company would sell NFTs one day. \u201cI expect that NFTs will continue to grow very significantly. We\u2019re not probably close to adding crypto as a payment mechanism in our retail business, but I do believe over time that you\u2019ll see crypto become bigger,\u201d he said.\u00a0When asked whether he could see Amazon selling NFTs, Jessy replied, \u201cYeah, I think it\u2019s down the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;I expect that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NFTs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#NFTs<\/a> will continue to grow very significantly. Previously, Amazon had become involved in the NFT space through a series <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/amazon-s-new-series-nftme-explores-nft-culture-and-disruption-worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called NFTMe<\/a>, which explores NFT culture and disruption worldwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While little is known about Amazon\u2019s forthcoming foray into NFTs apart from what anonymous sources relayed to <em>Blockworks<\/em>, the company will likely share more information with the public over the coming months, as, according to the report, April seems to be the tentative release date for these current endeavors.
