DeLorean<\/a>, the iconic car manufacturer, is accepting reservations through the sale of production slot NFTs<\/a> for the Alpha5, its highly anticipated electric car. The company that made the DMC-12 sports car, which became famous as the time machine in the \u201cBack to the Future\u201d trilogy, is back in the car business with its first electric vehicle, the Alpha5. The new DeLorean Alpha5 is an all-wheel drive large coupe with \u2018gullwing\u2019 doors and a 100-kWh battery that promises to deliver a range of more than 300 miles on a single charge. It can sprint 60 miles per hour (mph) in just 2.99 seconds and has a projected top speed of 155 mph.<\/span><\/p>\n

The DeLorean Motor Company announced a partnership with NFT IQ to create the world\u2019s first \u201cEV Digital Twin,\u201d tied to a real-world production slot of the Alpha5 and an online marketplace for the digital collectible. Each holder of a digital twin secures a unique production slot from the limited quantity of Alpha5 EVs to be produced over the next few years. Six months before the Alpha5 is made, its owners can customize it and get a new digital twin linked to the actual VIN. The digital twin also has a gameable avatar and access to special DeLorean-hosted events.<\/span><\/p>\n

DeLorean making History in the Automobile Industry<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This unique reservation method is the first of its kind in the automotive industry and involves a three-stage process, starting with the $88 Alpha Club Lifetime Membership. The journey to owning an Alpha5 continues with purchasing the production slot NFT on the DeLorean exchange, with the NFTs currently priced at $2,500 and set to increase to $3,500 on March 12. The NFTs can be traded on the DeLorean-established exchange, enabling interested buyers to purchase or trade NFTs for the Alpha5 build slot.<\/span><\/p>\n

DeLorean has yet to announce the cost and production location of the Alpha5, along with the final specifications and delivery timing, which will be revealed later this year. The sale of the Alpha5 build slots through NFTs exemplify DeLorean\u2019s commitment to innovation and exclusivity. The limited production run and unique reservation method will likely appeal to car enthusiasts and collectors alike. It will be interesting to see how this reservation method will impact the automotive industry and whether other manufacturers will adopt a similar approach.<\/span><\/p>\n
