As so, It\u2019s titled \u201cThe Classification of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), Virtual Goods, and Services Provided in the Metaverse.\u201d This move is part of the UK government\u2019s ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/practice-amendment-notice-223\/pan-223-the-classification-of-non-fungible-tokens-nfts-virtual-goods-and-services-provided-in-the-metaverse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provides<\/a> essential information for customers seeking UK trademarks related to NFTs, digital assets, and the metaverse. UKIPO\u2019s decision to release the guide coincides with a surge in NFT trademark applications. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), UKIPO\u2019s guide aims to provide clarity in this burgeoning field.<\/p>\n<p>The report defines an NFT as a \u201cunique and unalterable digital authenticity certificate\u201d that represents asset ownership without necessarily conferring underlying intellectual property rights, such as copyright. The report asserts that the UKIPO will accept services capable of being delivered virtually, such as training services.<\/p>\n<p>However, not all NFT-related plans have proceeded smoothly in the UK. The Treasury recently pulled back on its plans to release government-backed NFTs, initially proposed by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Nonetheless, the NFT sector continues to innovate.
