Impressed with the possibilities, Dr. Janiger\u00a0 embarked on the study of LSD as a catalyst for creativity. The research encompassed\u00a0 all the arts and involved people from all walks of life. Some of the luminaries who\u00a0 participated in the controlled sessions while under the influence of LSD were Aldous\u00a0 Huxley, Alan Watts, Jack Nicholson, Cary Grant, James Coburn and Andre Previn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 1958 to 1962, Dr. Janiger\u2019s research included the study of the effect of LSD on\u00a0 creativity in the visual arts. A Native American Kachina doll displayed in his office was often the subject for his participants to paint or draw.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAI on Acid\u201d endeavors to recreate the results of the artworks created in the study by\u00a0 using a high-resolution photo of the Kachina Doll from the original study along with\u00a0 reference works created during the study as visual prompts for the machine\u00a0 intelligence to generate new unique works. The reference works inform the AI of the\u00a0 artistic styles and medium used in the original study. Wexler selects various outcomes\u00a0 for the AI to remix, and he processes the generative results to individually enhance in\u00a0 Photoshop.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cFollowing my recent documentation of nearly 300 works from the\u00a0 original study in preparation for a coffee table book about the artwork from Dr.\u00a0 Janiger\u2019s study, it\u2019s remarkable to see machine intelligence produce results that are\u00a0 randomly unexpected, yet similar to abstract interpretations of the artists in Janiger\u2019s\u00a0 study, ranging from colorful representations to full-blown hallucinogenic deconstructions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wexler observes, \u201cFollowing my recent documentation of nearly 300 works from the\u00a0 original study in preparation for a coffee table book about the artwork from Dr.\u00a0 Janiger\u2019s study, it\u2019s remarkable to see machine intelligence produce results that are\u00a0 randomly unexpected, yet similar to abstract interpretations of the artists in Janiger\u2019s\u00a0 study, ranging from colorful representations to full-blown hallucinogenic deconstructions. It occurred to me that the psychedelic experience bypasses the ego\u00a0 and frees the mind to make unexpected neural connections resulting in an altered\u00a0 perception of reality. In a similar manner, artificial intelligence, which presumably is\u00a0 void of ego, is making random associations based on millions of data points. He was the author of \u201cA Different Kind of Healing\u201d and the co-author of \u201cLSD, Spirituality, and the Creative Process.\u201d Janiger\u2019s\u00a0 groundbreaking studies depict an important moment in the history of consciousness\u00a0 and reveal the innate creativity of humanity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Janiger practiced psychiatry and instructed medical students and residents for more\u00a0 than fifty years. He was an associate clinical professor in the department of psychiatry\u00a0 and human behavior at the California College of Medicine, University of California at\u00a0 Irvine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/glenwexlerstudio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Glen Wexler <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a visual artist best known for his elaborately staged photocompositions\u00a0 of improbable situations. Works are included in the permanent collections at the\u00a0 George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film, Los Angeles\u00a0 County Museum of Art (LACMA), and Palm Springs Art Museum, and have been\u00a0 exhibited worldwide including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 22-years old, Wexler photographed his first album cover for Quincy Jones\u00a0 Productions while a student at Art Center College of Design. He embraced\u00a0 opportunities in the music industry where he found a visual playground in which to\u00a0 hone his craft and vision. Album cover credits include Van Halen, Rush, Black Sabbath,\u00a0 ZZ Top, and many others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commissioned works include hundreds of advertising campaigns including Acura,\u00a0 Activision, Adobe, Coca-Cola, Maxell, Pepsi, and Sony. Wexler\u2019s editorial work\u00a0 includes featured conceptual photo illustrations for TIME Magazine. Fine art\u00a0 commissions include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
