He promptly answered other users\u2019 questions on Twitter and developed a reputation for helping to resolve issues with the OpenSea NFT platform.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2021, however, Chastain was <a href=\"https:\/\/nftevening.com\/fbi-arrests-nate-chastain-for-opensea-insider-trading-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused of insider trading<\/a>. He allegedly front-ran collections that were due to be featured on the front page of OpenSea. Chastain did this maneuver by buying them with anonymous wallets before they were featured on the homepage. After the NFTs went up in value from being listed on OpenSea\u2019s homepage, Chastain subsequently sold them for profit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-1\">Manhattan Federal prosecutors charged Chastain in June 2022 with netting more than $50,000 in illegal profits. The charges against him include one count of wire fraud and one count of insider trading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-2\">Prosecutor Thomas Burnett stated, \u201cHe knew that when he came up with a plan for what to feature on OpenSea\u2019s website, he was supposed to use that for the company, not for his own gain. Daniel Filor, Chastain\u2019s lawyer, said his client did not break the company\u2019s rules. He stated, \u201cNate\u2019s choices in his head about which NFT to feature weren\u2019t considered by <a href=\"https:\/\/nftevening.com\/what-is-opensea-a-guide-to-the-most-popular-nft-marketplace\/?swcfpc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenSea<\/a> to be confidential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/ex-opensea-employee-made-free-money-off-nfts-prosecutor-says-2023-05-01\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burnett disagrees<\/a>. The prosecutor pointed to Chastain\u2019s usage of anonymous wallets as proof of guilt. He claimed, \u201cIf the defendant thought there was no problem using inside information to buy NFTs, he could have just used regular accounts. He did that to throw people off his scent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-6\">Either way, we should find out soon.
