This year was especially noteworthy. For the first time since 2014\u2019s Apple Watch, the California-based tech company introduced a new product.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nftevening.com\/could-apples-new-headset-propel-the-metaverse\/?swcfpc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vision Pro<\/a> headset represents Apple\u2019s entrance into the world of mixed reality. The marketing team is careful not to use phrases like augmented reality, virtual reality, or <a href=\"https:\/\/nftevening.com\/metaverse-meaning-what-the-metaverse-is-and-why-you-should-care\/?swcfpc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">metaverse<\/a>, however. Instead, they champion the idea of a \u201cspatial computer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Apple CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tim_Cook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Cook<\/a> stated, \u201cIt\u2019s the first Apple product you look through and not at. Apple Vision Pro will introduce us to spatial computing.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"What_is_spatial_computing\"><strong>What is spatial computing?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Spatial computing involves creative immersive experiences that blend digital objects into physical spaces. Think screens and menus floating in mid-air, viewable only through a headset lens of course. Users can control apps and displays through the use of eye movement, hand gestures, and finger taps.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the metaverses shown in marketing from competitors like <a href=\"https:\/\/nftevening.com\/facebook-metaverse-move-raises-value-of-axie-and-decentraland-tokens\/?swcfpc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meta<\/a>, Apple does not believe in fully-immersive digital spaces. It does not want to create \u201cvirtual escapes\u201d. In contrast, Apple\u2019s Vision Pro headset is intended for short bursts of gaming, media consumption, and communication.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg\u2019s Apple tech reporter Mark Gurman confirmed this thinking. He writes, \u201cI\u2019ve been told pretty directly that the idea of a completely virtual world where users can escape to \u2014 like the can in Meta Platforms\/Facebook\u2019s vision of the future \u2014 is off-limits from Apple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This distinction may seem minor to some. The front of the headset is 3D-formed laminated glass that blends into an aluminum frame. The frame has a button that operates a built-in camera allowing users to take photos and videos. The headband holds audio pods \u2014 no more lost earbuds!<\/p>\n<p>Individuals who wear glasses are going to be able to use the headset, of course. The glass sits too close to the face to wear glasses.
